Here are some other ideas to get you started:
- What about making a photo birthday card by finding a funny or cool baby picture of your recipient to put on the card?
You can create an antique looking card to "frame" it in or a colorful and funky way to enhance the picture.
- How about creating a "When You Were Born" Birthday Card that includes some interesting facts about what happened around the world on their birthday?
Wikipedia.org has a cool (and free) way to find historical facts about each day of the year on their page titled, "Historical Anniversaries"
Just print the information in a pretty font on pretty paper and you've just created a personalized mini-history book for them on their birthday!
- How about creating a Birthday Card Yearbook?
Find pictures of celebrities that share your birthday recipients birth date and attach them to the outside of the card and on the inside write: "But you're the coolest one of them all!" with a picture of them included.
- Acknowledge your special relationship with the person by making a "Remember When..." timeline card.
Pick out memorable or funny things that had happened between the two of you and create a personalized timeline of your relationship.
For example, for my little sister I might write, "Remember when we drove to San Francisco in the middle of the night and got lost? And we had to take that scary one lane highway that we were sure was haunted, spooky!"
This card can even be made into a "book format" with different pages and perhaps memorabilia.

Making your own card allows you the freedom of choosing your own colors, themes, sizes, and message. So don't be afraid to get personal, jump outside of the box, and make your own definition of a birthday card.
