Make Your Own Christmas Cards!

hand made christmas cards

Make your own Christmas cards using your paper scraps! Just like I did with this card!

You can make your own homemade Christmas cards with exactly what you have on hand.

Christmas trees are the easiest holiday item to create using paper scraps (snowmen may be pretty easy, too, we'll save that for another card design) to make your own Christmas cards.

The Christmas trees on this hand made Christmas card are simply different sized triangles on a strip of brown cardstock. How much easier can you get?

I lucked out and found three different green patterns of paper for my Christmas trees, but you can use any patterned paper that you can find that could resemble a decorated Christmas tree.

The "snowy" hills were created using some other patterned paper, I liked the colors because the pastel-esque-ness of the snow matches the vibe of the Christmas trees. I originally think the snow patterns that I chose were meant for new baby cards or something along those lines, but I think they work pretty well with hand made Christmas cards too.

So, yes, you can make your own Christmas cards with just what you have on hand.

Material Needed:

  • Cardstock for the actual card, I just used a white 5" x 5" card

  • Different colored scrap paper for the trees, brown cardstock, and patterned paper for snow

  • Scissors

  • Decorative scissors for the snow, this is optional

  • Crafting glue

  • Inky pen to write "Merry Christmas" or you can use a rubber stamp with your own holiday message

Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. If needed, cut and fold your cardstock to the desired size - I just used a pre-cut 5" x 5" card.

  2. With your scrap paper, cut out three different sized triangles for your Christmas trees.

  3. Cut your brown cardstock into three strips, these will be the trunks of your Christmas trees.

  4. Using your decorative scissors, cut little hills to represent snow. You can do one or two strips of snow, I did two to add more color.

  5. Layout your imagery to see where everything will go.

  6. Glue your tree trunks first, then your snow, then your Christmas trees.

  7. Using your inky pen, write out "Merry Christmas" or another holiday greeting.
