Ways to Say Congratulations!

There are ways to say congratulations that will make your gal or guy feel special.

Often a congratulations is in order when a person completes a great accomplishment in their lives, such as passing a difficult test, completing school, earning an honor or award, getting engaged, having a baby, and a host of other wonderful events that mark a person's life.

My favorite ways to say congratulations include specifying what it is you are congratulating someone on. This shows that you are not just offering empty words, but have put thought into your congratulations note.

If you are congratulating a younger person who has accomplished something great that you have also done, then maybe you can consider offering some insight or advice for their future. It's always nice to learn from others who have gone through the same situations and it can make your congratulations note even more memorable.

Along with a congratulations note, here are some ways to say congratulations with a gift or kind gesture:

• A handmade congratulations card.
  I may be biased because I make handmade greeting cards, but with a special handmade card, you are able to customize it just the way you want!
• Flowers or a single rose.
  Flowers are a great way to say Congratulations someone on getting married or if you have found out that a couple is having a baby. Flowers are like life's little indulgences and anyone, though especially women, love to receive flowers.
• Gift card to an appropriate store.
  If your special person is getting engaged, how about a gift card to Victoria's Secret? This could be for a guy or a girl!

  Or if the person has just gotten accepted into graduate school, consider getting them a gift card to an office supply store like Staples or Office Max -- they will be grateful in having some help with school supplies.

• Take them out to dinner.
  Take the person to their favorite restaurant and spend some time to let them know how proud you are.

Usually it is the journey that is more memorable than the destination of the accomplishment and over dinner you can converse on how they ended up where they are. This is especially nice if you don't see the person very often, it will give you a chance to relax and catch up.

• Appropriate tools.
  Did you special person just graduate culinery school? Consider getting them some really fancy tools for their specialty. This will be especially helpful for a pastry chef as most quality baking tools are somewhat pricey.
• Quality time together.
  If your son or daughter just got accpeted into a great school - maybe out of state, then consider going on a special outing right before they leave. This could be a baseball game or other special event where you can congratulate them and spend some time with them.
• A fun accessory, trinket, or gag gift.
  If the person has just passed a driver's test, how about getting them a cool keychain or a really cheesy one.

  Or perhaps a really outrangeous antenna ball is in store for the new driver.

  If the person has just turned 21, then consider getting them an engraved beer mug or bottle opener or other fun trinket.

• A picture or picture frame.
  If you have a recent graduate consider taking a nice photo of them in their cap and gown to have framed.

  Or if you close to their alma mater you can go to the college/school gift shop and buy a really nice frame for them to hang their degree or dimploma.

• Appropriate work attire or uniform.
  Did a friend of yours just pass her RN exam? Consider getting her some outrageous scrubs (flying cats or singing frogs would work) as a congratulations gift! It will be both thoughtful and useful.
