Creative Handmade Wedding Card Ideas

Wedding card ideas can be found in a lot of different ways. If the wedding is a little ways down the road then you have some time to figure out a creative way to make a homemade wedding card.

Of course you can go the traditional route and make a beautiful handmade wedding card with a elegantly decorated cake or maybe a embossed rubber stamped wedding dress. Or you can go un-traditional and do something totally unique.

Whatever style of wedding card ideas strike your fancy I'm sure that the bride and groom will relish in your creativity and absolutely adore the fact that you even decided to make them a card for their special day!

Here are some creative wedding card idea nuggets that you can chew on:

  • Is it a destination wedding?
Is the happy couple planning their wedding in Hawaii? How about surround the outside of their wedding card with hibiscus flowers or tropical plants?

Or finding a cool picture of the destination or map and decorate it with hearts and images of love.

  • Do you know where they are going for their honeymoon?
If the couple is planning a cruise to Mexico or an African Safari, incorporate what you know into the card.

This way you can both congratulate them on their marriage and also wish them good times on their honeymoon.

  • Where is the wedding going to be?
Is the location of the wedding a very special place to the couple? Is it their church or their favorite rose garden?

If you have time, perhaps you can go to the location and snap some cool photos to incorporate into the card.

And don't just think in color - what about a really neat black and white photo?

Or having the picture touched up in Photoshop with a Sepia tones to make it look like an antique photo?

  • Are you part of the bridal party?
Are you a bridesmaid or maid of honor? Can you reflect on how you know the bride and her relationship with the groom and write out a special message for them?

If you are not giving a toast at the wedding, how about writing down what you would say in a toast so that they can enjoy it when they are opening their wedding gifts.

It will be more special than a generic wedding card and they will likely want it as a keepsake.

  • Can you incorporate the couple's wedding invitation into the card
A lot of couples are choosing to make their own Save-the-Dates and wedding invitations. A cool way to commemorate their special day is to use a part of their wedding invite as a part of the card (of course, if you are planning on saving the invite, don't do this).

You needn't use the whole invitation, does the couple have a "map" of where the wedding will be? Perhaps you can cut it out, decorate it with a cool border of lace or decorated edges, and place a little heart jewel where the wedding will be taking place.

Then you can write a message regarding how happy you are to be sharing their special day.

  • What are their wedding colors?
Checking out the couple's style through what wedding invite they have chosen can be a great launching pad for some creative wedding card ideas.

Think of their colors and theme - can you incorporate that into a personalised wedding card?

  • What season did the couple decide to tie the knot?
A summer wedding card can be a bright and festive. Whereas with a wintery wedding, you might do something more elegant with dramatic contrasting colors.

Autumn or Fall weddings offer a lot of color choices that can match the changing of the seasons, think orange, greens, and different shades of brown.

Remember, whichever way you slice and dice your handmade wedding card ideas - the newlyweds will love it!

Here is a Simple and Easy Homemade Wedding Card

This card is for my husband's cousin who is getting married soon. They are a younger couple, so something simple and clean would be better than something overly elaborate.
